Seth Keener understands life has its challenges, but nothing can prepare him for the night that changes everything. Forced to make choices with little time to think, he must act on his instincts. Kit Keller believes destiny brought her and Seth together, but after he's shot in the lobby of her dorm, Kit must say goodbye to Seth for good. Heartbroken, one wary day at a time, Kit faces the reality of life without him. But saying goodbye proves to be a challenge. Trying to seek closure, Kit finds herself at the place that brings Seth's spirit alive, and it's like waking ghosts. Even though she witnessed his dead body the night he was shot, she begins to question the possibility that Seth is alive. Searching for answers, the ramifications begin to add up, and before long, Kit finds herself, locked in a car, handcuffed to a serial killer.

Growing up in a toxic environment, sixteen-year-old Jay Foster has always had psychological problems, coupled with a quick temper. But one night something happens which finally pushes him over the edge, and as a result, he leaves his house the next morning with two things: his mother's gun and a plan. Living with a neglectful and drug addicted mother wasn't easy for Jay, and it definitely didn't help that his father abandoned the family while he was still a child. He harbored a hatred toward his parents, and that hatred extended to almost everyone and everything around him, producing a very troubled and damaged young kid. As Jay enters high school, he becomes very intrigued with one of his classmates. Kind of obsessed, actually. Her name: Mikayla Keeler. Mikayla is very unique, and like Jay, she doesn't seem to fit in with her contemporaries. Instead, the two of them keep each other company, and their friendship very quickly escalates into a romantic and intimate relationship. Despite having Mikayla, Jay's troubles continue to burden him. He and Mikayla are fighting habitually, his home life is still unbearable, and his time at school is hardly any better, made worse by a bully named Calvin. Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school. With everything seemingly piling up, Jay is very close to his breaking point, and late one night he is blindsided by the unthinkable, pushing him much too far and effectively planting in his mind a cruel and horrific plan for revenge.

Growing up with a nickname like Misery can seem like the worst thing to happen to a girl. That is, until you find out that your father is a serial killer. Ten years after escaping the town that would never allow her to escape her father's dark shadow, Missouri Jacobs returns to Faulkner Montana with one mission in mind. She needs to settle her family's estates, then she can take that money and start a new life, maybe even with a new name, someplace no one knows her or the stories that surrounded her family. However, returning to her childhood home brings back all of the memories Missouri has been spending years trying to forget. And a chance run in with a boy she once loved with all of her heart makes not drowning in those memories over and over even harder. All set to leave, Missouri wants nothing more than to put Faulkner and everything that happened there truly in the past once and for all, but then... Another girl goes missing. Then another. Then another. Wrapped in a fog of déjà vu and separating the present from her past, Missouri is determined not to be blindsided this time. This new killer might be playing games with her, but this time, she's going to be the one to end this all, or she'll die trying.
