In the middle of their search for the Philosopher's Stone, Edward and Alphonse Elric get a lead on a woman who might have knowledge about it. The only strange thing is that for the first time since they met, Coronal Mustang will be accompanying them on this journey. Also joined by Lieutenant Armstong and Winry, they travel to the small town of Risebal (Rise-baal) and not only learn more about the stone, but they learn more about Mustang's shrouded and tragic past.

When they do find the answers they seek, it is not as it seems to be. Nothing is as it should be, and Fullmetal seems to be no more, a uncontrollable and unpredictable being left behind.
