The world of the novel revolves around the perspective of Kere Reventon, a vain teenager pushed into obscurity after an outburst in the town square; she believes she has been abducted by aliens. Instantly ridiculed, driven to a state of almost clinical isolation, made worse by events that have transpired in her past, most notably the recent murder of her father. Kere is able to move on and pretend to agree with the townsfolk; she imagined the whole thing, that she unknowingly ingested some form of hallucinogenic drug, that she lied. Then, a crop circle is found near her home... Crop circles begin to be found all over the world.
