I am currently working on a story called welcome to the circus. And I decided to just write each character's story first so I have everything organized. Every character was part of the circus in someway and each tell about when they started working there and how they DIED. Their ghost floats around the spot they have died. Not because they can't move from that spot but because they have no where else to go. So the circus is their home.
