A poem is partly like a recipe. A poet has to have a cupful of experiences, a spoonful of creativity, a tinge of inspiration, and a bit of solitude. These pieces are combined and mixed without any external stirring but by a mere desire for self-expression. It requires ingredients but does not prescribe instructions. A poem intends to magically transform these formless ingredients into perceivable lines (kurit, in Minasbate) arranged orderly on a page to reconstruct the poet's experience into the reader's own sphere of experience, thus bridging two unique selves. This collection of my poems written since my college years is a product of my constant experiments with those ingredients. Multifarious scenes (natural and man-made), challenges, and aha moments have permeated my senses and fueled my creativity. Inspirations coming from people close to me, from things that radiate God's greatness, and from Infinite Wisdom have enabled me to artfully assemble those perceptions into tangible meaningful lines. These poems reflect my critical views of science, religion, love, life, knowledge, art, emotions, and their interconnectedness based on experiences and intuition. I hope that every page of this humble work will send you to the place where my passion happily lies and discover what is inside my silent inner self. Sherwin E. Balbuena
