"Dad didn't die from some poison, Alec." Vander said suddenly.

I froze.

"What?"

"It was a snake. A black snake. I saw it." Vander continued gravely. "It was intentional. An assassination."

Dad... was assassinated?

Alec's life has turned for the worse. Her father is dead, and her brother is dying from an incurable illness. Not to mention the family's financial situation is rapidly slipping downhill. Feeling useless and bitter, Alec longs to unlock her ultimanium and help her family for once... That is, until her brother Vander gives her a sealed manilla envelope, a shocking revelation and a desperate request: join the Guard and continue unravelling the mystery he wasn't able to finish.

The land of Telmara is thick with tension. Danger is brewing, and with the Trials underway, it's only a matter of time before it all explodes.
