After society as we know it was destroyed in World War V, a radical community of women emerged from the ashes and conquered the last survivable land in the Americas. This group of women, the Widows, blamed the war on the male species and their need for vengeance, sex, and violence. They created their own society based solely on structure, peace, and abstinence, isolating the male species completely. Two hundred years later, the community is known as the Axis. This all female safe haven is known to those inside it as the sole surviving community on earth; and the male species is presumably extinct. Codi, a 19 year old young woman in the Axis who seems to be the only one with questions about its past, is training to become the new leader of the community's defense. But when Codi follows her curious Captain into the woods one night to investigate a strange group of figures outside of the gates, she comes face to face with the one person she never thought she would see... because he was supposed to be extinct. As the lies of the Widow's unravel and Codi is taken farther and farther from the cold walls of the Axis, she comes to find that the story of history she has heard her whole life may not only be completely wrong, but a ploy to cover up what has truly been going on in the rest of the world since WWV. Soon, as she grows closer to her rescuers and learns that the male species is not at all what she thought, she begins to realize that there may be much more to life than the Axis led her to believe.
After the Ship Masters arrive Violet seizes her chance to experience life beyond the Farm. She learns that a planet nestled in the stars is waiting for her. But will her love, Zia, be welcome there?
In the Moon Colony, Lucille rises to Presidency from humble beginnings. She enacts a plan to save humanity's dwindling population but is torn between two warring classes. Life in Genesis is luxurious and technology has slowed aging. Underground, in Ickwall, citizens serve the city above and scrape by however they can.
