Life is Never What it Seems

Follow the main character through this short story of sadness and hope in a strange new world. But mostly sadness. Lots of sadness.
It had to be sad for a writing contest I'm entering otherwise it would have been happier. Oh well. You are warned.
It has a twist at the end. Or maybe I made it too obvious I don't know.
