Serendipity

Diana Smithson's ordinary life as a sophomore in high school is turned upside down when her parents suddenly announce that they are getting divorced in order to swap partners with a couple they met back in Jamaica. They seek her approval of the shocking change, and while at a restaurant during dinner where Diana meets the other couple as well as their teenage son Jason Copper, who is around her age, she reluctantly agrees to the arrangement. At first, Jason appears to be a complete jerk who takes every opportunity to make fun of and tease Diana, but he actually turns out to be fun and attractive, and Diana finds herself falling in love with him. Little by little, she accepts her new family arrangement and opens up to Jason as they become best friends.

After a while, Diana and Jason's relationship starts to become complicated because of the former relationships that they've had and developed with other people. These include Diana's long time classmate and former crush from middle school, Kaiser , and Jason's former girlfriend from his previous school, Joyce Gynn. A secondary subplot develops when Diana's best friend, Grace Stone, herself starts to have her own problems because of the relationship she has gotten into with one of the school teachers, Johnathan Hopkins.

Throughout the series, Diana and Jason's relationship is further developed and tried, influenced by the other characters around them and the relationships that they develop with these people.
