After the battle between hope and despair, Makoto Naegi, the Ultimate hope triumphed and the brainwashed remnants of despair were saved. The survivors of the first killing game, along with the participants of the second, all joined the Future Foundation, helping to restore the world back into its peaceful state. Yasuhiro Hagakure then makes a prophecy: "Some of the dead will return, not as themselves but as reincarnations. Two spirits will mix into one and they will be reborn." Shuichi -when he is a kid- lives with his parents and his uncle in Japan before they had to move to America, where he left his only childhood friend, Kokichi. Years had passed, and ever since he had moved overseas, Kokichi had made some new friends: Maki and Himiko. Their first high school year only started for them, but the murderous group that was once in America named 'The Despairs' had travelled to Japan, and was followed them was none other than the young detectives Shuichi with his non-biological sibling Tsumugi. They both enrolled in the same high school as Kokichi and his friends and things happened. Now how will this go as Shuichi and Kokichi solve things out while Shuichi's on the road to getting the Despairs to justice?
