Duck Newton is a park ranger, and a member of the Pine Guard. It's his job to make sure there's nothing wrong happening in the forest, natural or otherwise.
It's February. It's cold. Duck is stuck checking the forest after a severe blizzard to ensure that everything's fine, and that no one gotten stuck out in the storm.
Duck was expecting a few damaged trees, maybe some lost couple who had been on a walk when the blizzard started, but not what he did find.
Two unusual little boys who weren't of this world.
