Vědci se snažili vytvořit lék proti HIV, ale než aby vir oslabili a zabili, více ho posílili a následním mutování, z člověka udělali jakési monstrum, které prahlo po lidském masu. I když se sebevíc vědci snažili vir zničit, který sami oni vytvořili, vir se množil a rozšiřoval rychlostí světla. Ne ani za rok, byla celá lidská populace nakažena tímto virem a lidem, kterým se podařilo viru utéct, či nějak jinak ochránit, teď bojovaly o život. Nehrozila smrt jenom od zmutovaných, ale i od cizinců.
