A surprise is lurking around the corner for Snape just after the war. It had been a year of pure struggle to overcome the pain and healing that was needed to recover after the war. Despite Snape wishing that he had died he somehow did not.

Snape survived but at a cost. Dumbledore had to work a lot of things out including how his owning the three deathly hallows allowed him to conquer death. Although the old man survived and is relatively healthy, Snape isn't the same. The man is more closed off and only lives because he knows Albus needs him to lean on. This is where Athena comes in as a sort of potions apprentice. Snape thinks Albus has lost his mind but in reality Snape needs the help as he struggles both physically and emotionally. JKROWLING owns everything apart from the students as well as Athena and the mentioned friends. I love HP and love all of the professors as well as the photos at the top of each chapter.

Post-war. Twenty-one-year-old Harry Potter is disillusioned with the Auror Corps as he has some residual spell damage and can no longer partake in active field duty. The young wizard is regulated to his desk at the ministry, and thinks that he should be doing more and not getting "special treatment", as it were. Severus Snape, now the Deputy Headmaster, has become a bit of a recluse, and is only seen in his potions classes or at mealtimes, and spends the rest of his time brewing. None of the professors can get through to him, as the man doesn't seem to want to listen. Minerva McGonagall, now the Headmistress of Hogwarts, decides that enough is enough, and so she hires Harry as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, in the hopes of filling the position, and getting Severus out of his funk.

Severus Snape survived the war to everyone's surprise. He remained the Headmaster of Hogwarts with Minerva's help and offered for every 7th year to repeat their year if they wanted. If not, they were to graduate anyway. Neville, Luna, Draco, and Hermione went back while Harry and Ron decided to go into the Auror world. Hermione and Ron were doing okay as a couple however Ron doesn't like the fact that Hermione is so close to Snape. As Head Girl, she comes up with a new program to help out the teachers. 7th years are to teach one class a week for the younger students so the teachers could have an extra break. The new program forces Headmaster Snape and Hermione to work in close quarters for the year.

As time goes by, however, and their lessons are forced to resume again, Harry comes to terms with his attraction towards the older man, and Severus, although reluctant to do so, gives in to kissing the young man, and a relationship blooms between them. When times are shaken up because of various Death Eaters threatening to destroy life as they know it, both men are thrust into the center of it all, especially when Sirius Black, now Harry's guardian, catches wind of the relationship and puts an end to it by force. Will their love be strong enough to handle the war, their separation, and will it prove to be the power the Dark Lord knows not?
