The boys, Cory and Thomas, find themselves at the center of the action again. This time an invading force has determined to make the Earth a garden place for them to settle in. But they also want to make us slaves under their control to use to their own ends. They promise peace on Earth, but the cost is high. This sample chapter is early in the book, when Major Remmick asks the boys to speak with Salah, Tobias' father, and ask if his people are the ones invading the Earth. He's clear he doesn't want the boys involved except to find out if Tobias' father knows anything about the invasion. Of course, Thomas and Cory have an impossible task: To stay on the sidelines while the world is coming apart or to get involved once again.

Homeland by CoryDoctorow

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER -- In Cory Doctorow’s wildly successful Little Brother, young Marcus Yallow was arbitrarily detained and brutalized by the government in the wake of a terrorist attack on San Francisco—an experience that led him to become a leader of the whole movement of technologically clued-in teenagers, fighting back against the tyrannical security state. A few years later, California's economy collapses, but Marcus’s hacktivist past lands him a job as webmaster for a crusading politician who promises reform. Soon his former nemesis Masha emerges from the political underground to gift him with a thumbdrive containing a Wikileaks-style cable-dump of hard evidence of corporate and governmental perfidy. It’s incendiary stuff—and if Masha goes missing, Marcus is supposed to release it to the world. Then Marcus sees Masha being kidnapped by the same government agents who detained and tortured Marcus years earlier. Marcus can leak the archive Masha gave him—but he can’t admit to being the leaker, because that will cost his employer the election. He’s surrounded by friends who remember what he did a few years ago and regard him as a hacker hero. He can’t even attend a demonstration without being dragged onstage and handed a mike. He’s not at all sure that just dumping the archive onto the Internet, before he’s gone through its millions of words, is the right thing to do. Meanwhile, people are beginning to shadow him, people who look like they’re used to inflicting pain until they get the answers they want. Fast-moving, passionate, and as current as next week, Homeland is every bit the equal of Little Brother—a paean to activism, to courage, to the drive to make the world a better place.

Cloud Crystals

35 parts Complete

In the land of Farain, cities float hundreds of feet above the ground and ships sail the winds high in the sky with the aid of powerful crystals. At first glance, Farain is a country of peace and prosperity. Behind the scenes, its lowliest citizens toil to mine the crystals that keep the country running, and discontent is spreading among the people like a sickness. Hayden Marsh's father is a very powerful man, as he controls the crystal distribution lines. He has seemed a bit on edge of late, with a journey to the capital Sky City of Zyrin next on his agenda. This time, Hayden is excited to accompany his father and get a glimpse of the greatest city ever built. However, other forces are at play. Their ship is attacked by pirates over wild jungles. The only survivors: Hayden, a rich merchant's nephew named Jacob, and a mysterious stowaway named Myra. They will soon be plunged into a dangerous world of pirates and rebels, a world that they never even knew existed. When they are found by an explorer on a mission from the King itself, they begin to realize that everything is more connected then they thought, and that terrible things are in motion. And suddenly, everyone is a little too interested in Hayden.
