The Paralysis is a strange place not known by man. But because it's existence is hidden to the rest of the world only adds to the horrifying element, of which if you were to somehow get there, there would be no one to help you. No one, to come looking for you. If you were to find someone stuck there with you, well-they'd most likely try to murder you, and that's a major problem in Sam's case.
