"Mama?" He peeked out of the closet as his heart dropped below his feet. She screamed, sounding like she was crying. He backed up further into the closet, panting, not knowing what to do. His dad was with her, so why was she scared? Why was she crying? He's supposed to protect them but something's wrong. Why'd his father chase him upstairs with a bat? Why was his dad angry? His mother was just taking her medicine the way she usually does.
