A great percentage of the human race suddenly dropped dead, the skin melting from their bones as soon as the rays of the sun touched them. It was the first Catacylsm, and all over the planet, great vaults were built deep underground, where the sunlight couldn't penetrate. What was needed was a way to repel 100% of all sunlight from human skin, it was not until forty years ago, that the first prototype of the reflective cloak was sent to vaults all over the world. The abandoned cities and towns had remained the same, as though untouched, but with centuries' worth of natural growth covering them like an emerald blanket. Six years ago, human beings all over the world underwent a hideous and terrifying mutation, which turned each and every person older than the age of seventeen into ravenous demons bereft of sanity and memory. These misshapen demons, who were once parents, brothers and sisters have hunted through the day and night, as they are no longer affected by the sun. This was the second Catacylsm. Far to the north, on an island off the eastern coast of the land once known as Canada, a group of twenty eight children have sequestered themselves in a secluded fishing village. This particular clan, call themselves the Red Scarves. Written by Lovejoy, Chyoko, Melodym, Deathbringer, DotCom, InDefiance and XAngelofMournin of the roleplayerguild.com community

Firstly, it was just the prisoners that were used. Then it became orphans, and even some of the elderly. Now it is everyone in a society where people are struggling to find work. Money is offered to anyone willing to volunteer themselves or their children to take part in scientific trials run by the organisation called Calox. Except no one ever gets the money. No one is ever seen again once they've volunteered for the trials. (This is the first book in the 'Children of Calox' series. 'Flames' is the sequel, and therefore the second book in the series. I plan to write between three and five books in total.)
