Innate

In a world where evolution has taken an extra step you have to tread carefully. Humans have developed the ability to cast spells derived from magical essence in the body. Creatures and plants have also developed similar abilities and can also cast spells as forms of protection and hunting.
On your 16th birthday you're supposed to be told whether you're Innate, or a Null-gene.
Innates consist of the majority of the population and can perform elemental magic. However, null-genes for whatever reason, have taken an evolutionary step backwards. Christophe is born into a null-gene family who work as servants for the royal family. Because of his servitude and null-gene ancestry Christophe is denied entry to the Test which determines his Innate abilities.
However, when Christophe and his brother are attacked by a giant wolf Christophe's world is turned upside down. Unleashing some sort of raw power Christophe is able to escape with his life, but his actions do not go unnoticed. Cloaked in the distant shadows someone hungry for power learns of his abilities. Thrown into an unexpected adventure Christophe is forced to determine who is friend or foe if he wants to live.
Trust is not an option.
