Rain Moyer and his dads own a horse ranch in a small town called Applewood. He's grown up there with his best friend Johnny by his side for thirteen years. They hang out almost every day together even if it means Johnny is just helping Rain with his chores or taking a ride down the trail to talk. They've never known life without each other, so when Johnny's parents get a job offer they can't refuse they're both heartbroken to find out he's moving to New York. Like most friends in these situations, Johnny promises to stay in touch with Rain and continue their friendship no matter the distance but he meets new people and eventually, he just stops texting and calling. Rain doesn't think anything could hurt worse than Johnny's betrayal of their friendship, but he grows up and moves on. Now seventeen, Rain is still being homeschooled by his fathers and works on their ranch. Their family has a business where they work with therapy horses and help people in need of equine therapy. They also do horse riding and holiday events. Johnny's taking a small class in his school on psychology and they're taking a trip to a ranch to learn some lessons in animal therapy. What Johnny doesn't know is it's Rain's ranch. What will happen once Johnny and Rain reunite once again?
