Everest Greenstone is a normal twelve-year-old girl . . . or so she thinks. She lives in British Columbia in a tree house with her two friends, and guardians, Darius the dog and Shimmer the dragon.
One day, during science class, Everest is taken by the teacher, Ms. Smith. Ms. Smith has built a teleporter in the school, and she is excited to show Everest.
Where the teleporter beings Everest, Shimmer, Darius, and an African-American kid named Blake is a place that is home to many magical creatures like dragons, elves and starwolves. They soon discover that dark forces are planning to rip through the light and good, and Everest knows she's the only one who can stop it.
Peregrine shrieked as flames shot directly at him. He stopped in the air to let Everest shoot an arrow at the dragon.
"Nice shot," Queen Elegant said, swooping up to her as the arrow hit the dragon in the chest. "We could use you more often."
Another scream pierced the air along with crackling noises. Strong winds followed at wings, talons, talons and hair. Everest squinted at the dark clouds forming before them. It was swarming with Dark Dragons.
Zanathee was in the middle.
His dark eyes searched for her, and when he found her, he grinned wickedly.
"Time for darkness," he boomed. "The darkness is coming the darkness is coming the darkness is coming and so are we."
The clouds sped toward them, roaring and spitting with fury. Elegant smiled at Everest.
"The real battle is just beginning. The Dark Dragons are coming."

I rounded the corner to the hall, only to smack into something. "I'm so sorry," I apologized, reaching down to pick up a book that had fallen.
