Melody survived, but sadly her mother didn't. After her mother's death, her father became an alcoholic. But she had one little light of hope, her mother's best friend, Michael Jackson. Michael was always visiting and in contact, but that contact was lost a year after Candance's death. 

Melody is being abused and neglected by her own father. Michael doesn't know that his best friend's daughter is going through this.
