Lerry is a girl born from humble beginnings. As the daughter of a live-in maid, she grew up with her mother's employer's family who just so happened to be white. They were loving people, and she was raised together with their son Achim, who became her best friend.
When her father died at the arms of a white police officer, she became deluded and was forced to reexamine the differences between her and them, choosing to distance herself completely in the end.
Years later, Achim and Lerry reunite but a series of conflicting emotions, unforeseen lineage and political injustice might just distance them even further than before.
This story is set in the post World War II apartheid era.

"I guess, in hindsight, she never expected to ever even kiss a white man. Her mind was probably dead set on having someone her own race, with her own values, her own opinions and possibly shared troubles. If not to marry, then at least to keep her company."

"What do you do when wants and needs clash?"

"And yet, like a moth to a flame, my heart was drawn towards him. The possibility of unravelling a love that knows no bounds; a love that knows no colors, was promising because of it's appeal, and heart wrenching because of it's plausibility."

Warning: strong undertones of racism given the time period may trigger some, but rest assured, I'm a sucker for a happy ending.

NOTICE: Before the Morning is currently undergoing revisions! A sensitivity reader (someone who goes through your manuscript and assesses representations in your work) identified a number of issues surrounding the Filipino representation in BTM. I'm rewriting with the goal of creating a more authentic and respectful story. I'm sorry for the pain I caused by failing to include accurate Filipino culture and in having written from Nora's point of view.
