There were  property_owning Indians in California desert
 Most  Indians did not own lands,did not even think of owning lands. Ownership was something that was not a consideration with them.They shared most thing in common and they had their own weapons, of course,and their own horses.
But other than that, most things were shared common. Those were the Indians,and mountain Indians... Californios  considered themselves a little bit special, a little bit different. And they were a very proud people. Very friendly on the whole. They had big ranches. They entertained a lot. They went in for dancing, music, and horseback riding. And It was an interesting world. 
DON ISIDRO  Inherited a big  ranch from his father. His daughter marrying a ship captain was not one of the thing he wanted..
