He welcomes her into his family of 'misfits' in hopes of protecting her from the monsters that hunt them. With the Elementals (also known as the Elders) missing and their numbers as a species dwindling across nations, they are forced to face the darkest horrors of the world on their own. Their kind has remained undiscovered by the public eye for centuries and the people in charge plan to keep it that way. After a virus known as the IAAN kills off 90% of America's children, the survivors gain powerful abilities and are placed in government-run rehabilitation camps. Ember Vast, who survived the disease along with her younger brother Azel are both hidden by their loving parents who dread the thought of sending them to the so-called camps. When tragedy strikes, Ember and Azel are forced to go on the run and try and find their aunt. Along the way, the two siblings join a few other youths on their way to a haven for kids like them.
