Xander Artisan knows everything an average sixteen-year-old should know. He can tie his shoes, he can calculate algebraic equations, he even knows how to kiss a girl. On a darker note, he also knows his mother committed suicide unexpectedly, not long after he learned to walk.
But maybe he doesn't know everything he thinks he does. Because his mother didn't kill herself, she sacrificed herself. She let herself be taken away by a creature that would haunt even an adult's nightmares, to save the mundane and magical worlds as she knew it, for another sixteen years. He also has no idea that his mother was an Artisan, a user of magic, and a powerful one at that.
Now the sixteen years is running out, and Xander has no idea of the storm ahead and the powers inside him. Time is catching up and Xander must learn all the things kept from him before the clock strikes midnight on his seventeenth birthday. Or the world his mother did everything to save, will burn to the ground. And the creature who killed his mother will leave not even ashes in its wake.
