Born in a time of war and death Celaena has a hard life ahead of her. As an orphan she never really met her parents and got thrown into a tavern to become a worker and her only piece of home is her family's pendant. When a mysterious attack happens Celaena becomes one of the only survivors to the first attack from the rising underworld. Demons are starting to plague the lands of Aiexenada and the worlds saviors have disappeared. The dragons and their riders left this unworthy world long ago, but when one little girl catches the eyes of someone very important to the riders and their dragons this war gets interesting.

The seemingly limitless flames drive a variety of leaders towards the juvenile dragon to use as a weapon to gain an edge over the enemy after generations of fighting. Ember's fire doesn't stop growing in power and poses a threat for the very dragon that it lives inside, but external forces are also at work which will change her forever.
