Axel is dealing with the guilt of not being able to live up to his sister's expectations, Spencer is being forced to watch his terminally ill brother slowly die, and Dakota is struggling to find a place in his homophobic family after coming out as gay. Each boy is convinced that they're the unluckiest person in the world. They find comfort and happiness in their newfound friendship and form a connection with each other that they never thought possible, each considering the friendship to be the best thing in their life. However, as they begin to navigate the ropes of loss and hardship together, they discover the hard way that the best things never work out in your favour.

Was this the sign he has been looking for? - River has been a mental health advocate for three years. With his own demons battled, he takes it upon himself to support others. More specifically strangers. He has always found peace in helping those who suffer in silence. When River is approached by a man who expresses his depressive tendencies, he decides to take the broken stranger for coffee, out of fear of what might happen if he lets him go. River tells him to offload, release all the sadness and frustration he has into someone who knows nothing about him. But when he leaves, River can't stop thinking about him. It's not until Alex comes back a few months later to thank him for listening when he needed help the most. Alex has a lot to thank for his signs from the universe.
