Eren was never one to get along with everyone at school and his mom's death certainly didn't make things better. Eren was 10 when his mom died making him an easy target for bullies. The death of Eren's mom made life difficult for Grisha having to not only work, but also raise a child by himself. The stress of both raising a kid and having to over work made him severely depressed causing him to turn to alcohol.
