"PLEASE! Stop!" She yelled, tears streaming down her face. They laughed collectively, like robots, and kept at it until she was almost sobbing. They had found her in one of the last places she could find to hide from them. They had circled her, surrounded her, until there was no hope of her escaping. Then they had thrown them: the insults, the bits of bricks, the old food, the balls (the only 'toy' allowed in this place), the cow dung. The usual things.
Yes, the usual things. They did this every day, had done since she arrived. What made it worse was that the guards did nothing to help her at all. In fact, they sometimes joined in. That was one of the (many) problems with this place, this 'school'. The 'teachers' almost never taught anything, and when they did it was violent and horrifying. And the students were worse. They were in such a desolate and degraded situation that they were barely even human anymore.
Eliza's main objective in here was to stay alive. The second thing she had to stay was sane; she had to not turn into one of >them<, she >had< to stay >her<. When she accepted the offer she had no idea how much more hellish her life was about to become. In actual fact, she had thought that it couldn't possibly get any worse, what with having no family, having no way to support herself (she couldn't get a job because she couldn't go to school; no one was allowed.), and then of course there was the fact that pretty much the entire world was smoking. So she accepted the offer to go to this 'Underground School' in a last desperate attempt to help her life prospects out. But by God had it backfired. 'I have got to get out of here,' she thought to herself. Eliza just couldn't believe that this, this horror and this violence and this absolute carnage, was her new normal.
So for now I'm saying this is it because
a) Writing is hard
b) I don't have a lot of time
c) I have other stuff in the works
d) I'm lazy 😴
