A group of friends, Harmony, Shimmer, Lightning Speed, Raspberry Swirl, Ice Magine and Aqua Gem are going to discover that they are the next bearers of the Elements of Harmony. The Princesses Celestia, Luna, Cadence and Twilight have chosen them. The new group that leads them to their destiny.

Princesses Twilight Sparkle and Luster Dawn want to begin Tirek's reformation processes, when a new, huge problem appears - a rich and influential pegasus named Iris Nephele, who had been elected as mayor of Cloudsdale convinces the citizens that their city is powerful enough to rebel and become an independent nation. Two large, red, bat-like wings poked out from under his cape. This was undoubtedly King Scorpan. "He holds the Staff of Sacanas," Saturn whispered to Luster, but she didn't hear him. She was mesmerized by the monster king, who did in fact hold the Staff of Sacanas. Luster Dawn bowed respectfully, and her friends did the same. "Greetings, King Scorpan," Luster Dawn said. "We are deeply honored to be in your presence." "Please, no formalities," King Scorpan laughed. "I'm just happy to have company for once." Twilight Sparkle and her friends travel to the Crystal Empire for her first princess summit. Twilight feels both nervous and excited about the event and is self-conscious about wearing her crown. However, her friends are supportive as always. When they meet with the other princesses, Celestia notices how tired Twilight and her friends look after their journey and sends all eight of them off to bed. Later that night, a cloaked unicorn sneaks into the castle and steals Twilight's crown. The next morning, Princess Celestia identifies the thief as Sunset Shimmer, her former student. The princesses explain that the mirror from which Sunset Shimmer escaped is a gateway to an alternate world and task Twilight with going into this other world to retrieve her crown. Little does she know, she will encounter her friends once again. What adventures await Twilight in this alternate world?
