Prophecy is a tricky thing. Most people would say prophecies are bound to fate, irrevocable, unchangeable, unavoidable. This is only true in part; once a prophecy is set, fate does its best to comply. Fate is a tricky, tangled thing, and there are few things that can sway it from the path of prophecy. Elaine is one of them, the Bond-breaker, the Untethered. She lives with the assurance that prophecies and fate cannot touch her, but the same cannot be said of those around her. 
As one who lives outside fate, she must be careful where she treads- not every change can be controlled so easily.
