Pearl is a 3 year old german shepherd who lives in New Orleans . She has the perfect family that every dog dreams of but all of that changes when Hurricane Katrina strikes New Orleans . Her family is forced to abandon her , hoping to reunite with her again someday . Pearl finds that her best friend , Max , didn't evacuate . When things get bad all she has is Max and the hope to see her family again as they try to find their way out of the hurricane .
