Alexandra Feodorovna Morozova or Sasha as she's known to everyone is a highly successful journalist for National Geographic Magazine. She has the job of her dreams and a great life, but she's haunted by something that happened in her childhood. Sasha was only 6 years old when a terrible catastrophe occurred in a neighboring country that had international repercussions for many years to come. She and her family immigrated to New York City just a few years later. When she was in her teens, she was diagnosed with the condition that had a direct link to the manmade disaster.
When her editor comes to her regarding writing about the 30th anniversary of the disaster, Sasha must face her past and write a story that will not only make her eligible for a great award but bring her full circle to the concrete jungle of a long ago abandoned city. This book is all about Sasha's quest for the truth and learning that life always finds a way to return even to the most inhabitable of places.
