Elias has always understood the world through structure, equations, logic, things that behave the way they're supposed to. So when his teacher asks him to tutor Alex, a quiet boy with failing grades and tired eyes, it feels simple enough.
Until it isn't.
As evenings of studying turn into shared silences, Elias begins to notice the things Alex never explains: the bruises, the flinches, the rigid deadlines to be home by nine. The more Elias tries to help, the clearer it becomes that the real problem isn't math - it's where Alex goes when the night ends.
When Alex finally shows up at Elias's door, broken and out of excuses, both boys are forced to choose between the safety they've been taught and the safety they desperately need.
