The Hidden Folk were the angels cast down for not fighting the war between heaven and hell. Irena was one of them. Her wings were clipped as she was left in a world where her Father's creations thought themselves mighty. That changed quickly.

As the aeons passed by, Irena and her siblings became known from gods to mere witches. Their powers surpassed everything, even the witches themselves. It is why the Originals sought them to help fight The Hollow.
