17-year-old Skylar feels suffocated by her life in a secluded world. Or as she likes to call it, her "Gone World." She wants to be free like a bird and not trapped in a cage. But a virus leaked in 2080 made it impossible for life outside, where the undead and chaos reigned. Everyone is secure inside Fort Dawn. A place free from diseases outside the boarded walls. A disease that will continue to plague the world until no more humans are left on the planet.
And Skylar doesn't want to populate the world like the leader of Fort Dawn, Axel Hendrix, plans to. She refuses to bore a child in any way, be through intimacy or through surrogacy. And fears that maybe he knows this about her. So she pushes his advances away.
But will she fall in love with him after he saves her from a planned rape and possible murder on her life? Or will the truth behind it all be too much?
Time is in the essence and the undead are restless.
AGE RATING: 15+ there's mention of sexual assault, suicide, kidnappings, drugs, gore, killings, and some slight use of language. Everything is mild, however I will post a WARNING in the beginning of chapters that display any of the above in great detail.

Back by popular request! The 2017 rough draft of The Virus Within! (Caution: Contains massive plotholes that were fixed in the polished The Virus Within Series. Grammar issues are present, particularly missing commas.) What do you do when you are one of the infected? The virus in my blood is trying to steal my humanity. It alters my very thoughts and reactions. It taunts me by tempting me with desires that it planted in my brain. These bloodthirsty desires would lead to my demise if I ever gave in. I have more in common with the zombies than with humans at this point. Even the fallen zombies accept me as one of their own. Blood is required to retain my grip on sanity, but the sweet-smelling blood from humans is a short path to madness. Human blood is to be avoided at all costs. Humankind around the world was driven close to extinction by the sudden appearance of the zombies, yet small groups of survivors constantly manage to appear and put my control to the test. -------------------------- This is a standalone zombie book. It has nothing to do with A Different Virus. I wanted to try a book with an easily irritated main character and a nutcase secondary character. This is a Zombie Apocalypse AU. ______________________________________ Tara Carpenter loved Amber Freeman. Amber Freeman loved Tara Carpenter. They were childhood best friends, practically attached at the hip. Then, in late 2015, when they were 11, Amber went missing. Everyone looked practically everywhere they could think of, but Amber was never seen again. Her parents didn't seem to care, however. Four years later, in 2019, the apocalypse occurred around what would have been Amber's sophomore year of high school. She would have been 15, just like Tara and most of the others their age. It's now 2023, meaning it's been four years since the apocalypse started and almost a decade since Amber disappeared. The world isn't exactly "safe" anymore; it never truly was, anyway. There are still survivors here and there, but not many, as around a third of humanity has fallen (either killed or turned, usually both). The government, despite its best attempts to control what had happened, fell as well. It was long overdue. Amber is very much "alive". When she went "missing", it turned out her parents had sold her to a lab, and she was turned, in a way. Given that she seems mostly turned, she can easily appear to be completely gone, but she's not. She's still in there. However, it's hard to speak for her due to the infection in her veins, but she's for the most part okay. She wanders around now, often with hordes of fully turned zombies, traveling the devastated world. She has been almost everywhere, in terms of cities and locations. Eventually, she stumbles upon Woodsboro again and finds a few people she thought she'd never see again. And maybe, just maybe, they can help her become human again.Complete
