Kait Harmon is a second gen, daughter of first gens who saw the spread of a sexually transmitted disease that resulted in victims developing "super powers" in the 1970s. Now almost 40 years later, things in the US have changed dramatically. A wall divides the "diseased" territory from that of the "normals," and the militaristic government has sent soldiers into the territory to collect third gens, illegally conceived by second gens. And Kait is about to go on a trip that will change her perspective. As she travels with a co-worker and group of soldiers, she becomes shocked by the things she learns and wonders which side of the wall is truly civilized.

"Are you coming to bed firefly?" He says to me laying his hands over my waist joining me in looking over the city. "I want to look out for a little longer if that is alright?" He says confidently and walks away leaving my waist cold something for which I am grateful. Especially when my mind burns with other more dangerous thoughts. The warmth that forever lingers in the air, never burning the skin, but always reminding about what is around us. I force air into my lungs feeling the unexpected warmth fill me. I should be dead. At least, that's what the government officials told me in the super-secret lab where I woke up strapped to a mattress in a windowless room...Sound problematic to anyone else? Like I told the psychos experimenting on me, I've got zero clue how I got my new powers, but I'm sure-as-shit not going to let them turn me into a deadly weapon (or squeeze me into a spangly jumpsuit).
