Through enlisting the help of a therapist, Sadie realises her list of regrets is a lot more comprehensive than she first thought, and topping that list are two very different but equally important people - Ruben Foster and Camden Jones - neither of which she has seen in over a decade, but who she comes to learn will be key to her positively moving forward in life with her eleven-year-old nephew. He and Mikayla are fighting habitually, his home life is still unbearable, and his time at school is hardly any better, made worse by a bully named Calvin. Their mutual dislike of one another leads to a lot of hostility, routinely leading to Jay being sent to his school's principal. One confrontation in particular goes much too far, resulting in Jay's expulsion from school. With everything seemingly piling up, Jay is very close to his breaking point, and late one night he is blindsided by the unthinkable, pushing him much too far and effectively planting in his mind a cruel and horrific plan for revenge.

They believe they can get through anything and they hope that's true when suddenly the brothers who disappeared years ago start to show up looking to mend their relationship with the twins who hold a deep hatred for their older brothers.
