After her mother almost died of an over dose, sixteen year-old Jaxson Carter's world is turned upside down. Forced to leave the sleepy little town she grew up in, Jaxson finds herself in the care of an aunt she never knew about.

It's during that summer, she meets the boy who lives five doors down from her aunt, a boy just a few years older than her.

After the New Kids go their separate ways, Joe finds himself back in his childhood home, trying to figure out how to live a normal life. Then, when he meets Jaxson, he finds himself becoming fast friends with her.

Being only sixteen, and three years younger than him, Joe fights the feelings that begin to come to the surface. But despite his reservations, finds himself giving into to his desires.

When Joe accepts a job offer in New York, he leaves a devastated Jaxson behind in Boston, not realizing the repercussions his actions would have on her future.

A chance encounter forces the two of them, but it's bad timing on Joes part, because he is in a relationship which was quickly going sour.

When a five year old secret is revealed to Joe, he finds himself rethinking his future.
