Souls cannot go to the afterlife, they need someone to help them.
No, the Grim Reaper is long gone. Now, humans who managed to open their third eye send souls to the afterlife. They can see them, hear them, fight them, but cannot touch them.
These are called "Trinetrans", i.e. People with three eyes.
Once in millennia, a soul killer is born. Someone who can dissolve the soul into nothing. It is said that a soul killer is born out of purpose only. But Jiya, the current soul killer was made, not born.
This new year, a new drug is in usage. People are mad and lost. They are biting and scratching every organism they find. It is Chaos!
But when the drug wore out, they have lost the recollection of everything they did and now, they are dependent upon the drug. People have opened their third eye and Trinetrans have lost theirs.
There is nothing left when Jiya is forced to fight the angriest and the strongest ghosts after World war 2.

They don't have emotions, only hunger and let me tell you, they will go out of their way to eat you, they will speak but it will sound different... Deformed almost.
