"I... I don't understand," I murmur, not sure if I'm talking to the walking God in front me or myself.
"What's there to understand, beautiful? You need to be taken care of just as much as anyone else." His dark green eyes stare through mine as If trying to convey some sort of code that I can't quite crack.
"My friends depend on me, I can't just run off--"
"That's where you're wrong, princess. You can. Youre a smart, sweet, beautiful grown ass woman, and you can do anything you want to do. That's why I'm here. To help you along the way." His eyes sparkle brighter than any star as he speaks these words.
My cheeks flush crimson and my eyes widen at the gorgeous man's words. Smart, sweet, beautiful, my mind repeated over and over.
"Along the way to... what?" I finally utter, staring up into Mateo's emerald eyes.
"Oh, babygirl. I'm sure you know."
Piper Moore, a lonely 22 year old college graduate with no love life, deals with more than she can fathom. I feel his dirty hands touch me once more and move up higher to my thighs. I try to jerk them away but he locks my arms in his hand above my head as a thousand hot tears leave my eyes. It's so dark and my tears don't allow me to see my angel. My savior moves as his fist connects with his face and my angel's hair glow under the moonlight and I stop breathing. Corbyn? His eyes move to my glossy ones and without any thought, he comes to me and wraps his arms around my body tightly. I look up at him, his face nothing but a hazy memory. His head is tilted down towards me and I think about how odd it must be for him too. If we kissed, would we find each other's lips? I stopped struggling and looked into his eyes, seeing the pain and fear that I had caused him. I then looked down as I said, "I thought I'd make it easier for you." His face paled. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper. I took a deep breath and confessed, "I never wanted you to fall in love with me." I say. He looked at me in shock, his grip on my shoulder loosening. "Why would you say that? Why would you think that would be easier for me?" he asked, his voice filled with confusion and hurt. I closed my eyes, unable to meet his gaze as I replied, "Because I don't deserve your love. I'm not who you think I am." He sat there in silence, processing my words. And then, without warning, he leaned in and kissed me softly on the lips. I pulled away, stunned by his action. "I don't care who you think you are. I love you, for you dumbass," he said.
