Amber Hughes has lived out most of her life with no mother, no father, no place to call her own. Her life at Saint Joan's School for Girls has been mundane at best, until the arrival of Heather Danvers, a problem student with the same unusual eyes as Amber.  After setting aside their differences, Amber discovers that Heather is a changeling, a faerie placed in the care of humans in exchange for a human baby.
