Death is always a shock.
When it comes up unexpectedly, it can make the survivors feel like their world has literally been turned upside down. The first reaction in learning of a loved one's death is usually to deny the reality of the situation. It eventually gives way to the Five Stages of Grief.
(This is a piece set right after the movie, Transformers Prime: Predacons Rising, and continues into a non canon/canon part of the TV show, Transformers: Robots in Disguise.
Knock Out will be going through the Five Stages of Grief while coming to terms with the death of his partner, Breakdown)

A transformers prime fanfic (Knockout x Breakdown) Cascade has grown older, but he still has a lot to learn. No larger than Breakdown's pede, he has a ton of growing to do. He loves to explore the Nemesis and annoy others, which constantly gets him into trouble. Starscream (who he has now deemed 'Uncle Screamy') gets highly annoyed every time he sees him. Megatron tolerates him, even teaching him how to break a mech's wrist in one move and how to dislocate a knee joint. Knockout doesn't approve of course, but Breakdown thinks it's good for him to learn. ---- As Cascade grows older, however, his curiosity grows with him. He wants to explore the world at his own pace without having Knockout or Breakdown constantly watching him. But when he stumbles upon something from his parents' past, questions start to burn in his processor. A Breakdown x Knockout story. Breakdown was a mech overwhelmed by severe social anxiety, and paranoia. Knockout was a mech who was abused.
