The apocalypse has started, and Daryl's wife and daughter are gone. They aren't dead; at least, not to his knowledge. He wavers between believing passionately that they're still out there somewhere, surviving the same way he is, and thinking they're dead and rotting somewhere. It's a thin line he's walking between the warmth of hope and the loss of it. They are a household divided, but not crushed, and both sides have to believe they'll reunite one day. For the themselves, and each other.

She goes by the nickname, Kata, a name her mother gave her. When she was two, her mother disappeared. Merle was in jail for two years and by the time Merle got out, Kata was four and they left their grandfather's place after Daryl learned the dark secret that hurt his daughter. When Kata's grandfather died, her family got the trailer and even though it was hard for her family, they made it work. Kata was taught how to hunt, shoot a gun, and grossly, how to gut certain animals. One night, the world died. Everything. The dead started coming back to life, killing the living. Her family ran into a man and woman on the highway, combing with other people, making a larger group. Everything started really change when a man named Rick Grimes came to the group.
