Dad sucks, Mom is dead, and your life is a mess. Alright, let's do this. Shawn is trying to live independently in North Carolina but his mental and emotional states are quickly unraveling. Still learning to cope with his PTSD from the assault he suffered at the hands of his half brother back in California, between the midnight phone calls to his father, unlocking memories he had blocked out, dreams that are way too vivid to have been made up and therapy sessions he's trying to live a normal life. His father, Tre Cool, is trying to convince him to come back home to get better treatment, but after moving in with his grandparents and meeting Art, going back 'home' to his 'family' seems impossible. He lost his mother at the age of 12, and ever since he was 14 his relationship with his father has been rocky at best. His step father, Billie Joe, tried to keep everything normal and together after Iva died, but trying to raise their little girl on his own as well as taking care of Shawn exploded in his face majorly when Shawn was 15. So when everyone sucks, you create your own family, even if it's unconventional. Author's note: This story gets pretty dark and heavy, please proceed with caution.

I could have sworn I hated him. I punched him in the face after all. But fear is a powerful fucking aphrodisiac I guess. ------------------------ Realizing it was hopeless, I stormed off, but before I could get very far he grabbed my hand. Frustrated, I turned around, but my face was accidentally way too close to his. My breath hitched in my throat. "Why can't you just leave me alone?!" I yelled in exasperation. Something seemed to pass across his face. He leaned in close and whispered- "You know why." ---------------------------- A teenage story filled with adventure, angst and love. A susceptible trepidation. mature warnings: slight violence and strong language (YA level novel)
