‘Damn he is in the freezing water’ I thought. Didn’t I recognize that guy? Then it hit me like a baseball bat. It was that boy who stared at me in my grandmothers’ bookshop. A friend of Erik probably. What was his name? Jack, John, Jonas? Oh yeah that’s right, it was James. That glimpse of those dark blue eyes. Wait! What is he doing?! The boy in the water was now screaming as if something terrible was just about to happen. Then he stopped and glazed right in to nothing. Was he crying? I couldn’t tell. Then he dove into the water. Paralyzed I didn’t move from my place and waited to see his head pop up out of the water. But it didn’t.
“Oh by the mother of holy cow..” I began to run towards the water. The boy was drowning, and not because he couldn’t swim. He was drowning HIMSELF.
