But the kingdom of Teana is pretty lacking in maids of the royal variety - which must be why Alannah finds herself tied to a pole, surrounded by sheep, and in the most ridiculous white dress she's ever seen.
Only she's not a princess; she's a witch. And she's not interested in being another notch on this dragon's belt. All she wants is get back to her Grandmother's shop, and back to her normal life.
But she's days from home, and her only assistance is a blundering knight-in-training, a recently captured slave - and the dragon, who follows them around like a curious puppy.
A large, dangerous puppy that can look human whenever it chooses - yeah, she's definitely in trouble.

Dal realizes that to get access to the Prince she must either befriend the beast or slay him, and though part dog he may be, the beast doesn't seem the type to lie down and roll over.
