Alex is 17 years of age and is in her third year of high school. She might look like an ordinary girl but she has one secret that she's only told her mother. Alex and her have never been close because Alex won't open up. We'll Alex doesn't have a mom it's her foster mom. But Alex never refers to her as "Mom" but calls her by her first name Natalie, but in public she does call her mom so that no one knows she's motherless. When she moves to her new school and meets some boy named Jake.He knows she has a secret but doesn't push her. What happened in Alex's past haunts her and blames herself for what happend. After what happened in her past she promised herself to never let anyone get close to her because everything she loves either dies a horrible death or leaves her in the dark. But when a boy comes along he changes everything and shows her that she is not alone. He falls madly in love with her. But Alex doesn't know if she is ready to let go what happened and tell him. She's afraid if she tells him the truth he'll hurt her and leave.
