Carmen is a musician. Actually, she is little more than a runaway, struggling to make it on her own after she deserts her life of servitude under a wealthy family in the trade nation of Roell. That is until she catches the eye of a famous performer who puts her talent to use, if not her face. Living in a sort of limbo between the fame that her songs have amassed and the anonymity of the poor and faceless masses, she begins to write the changes she wishes she could create, accompanied by a fiery, trouble-prone child, a maid who has unclear intentions at the best of times, a butler who seems to speak only in riddles when faced with a question about more important topics than butter knives, and a cook who can't understand a word being said to him.
