Max and Bucky were best friends. And Steve, of course, the younger boy that they were always keeping out of trouble together. He would get into fights, and they would save his ass, whether together or apart. Max and Bucky were always in sync, doing everything together, eating, sleeping, saving Steve. Nothing could separate them.
Until the day that Max registered for the Army, becoming one of the only women to do so at the time. World War Two was raging all around them, and she longed to do nothing more than fight for her country as she had fought for her friends all those years. She was unknowingly the reason that Bucky signed up, and eventually Steve.
I say unknowingly, because one day, while Max was on a rescue op to get Steve just as she had done a million times before, she was taken by a group of HYDRA agents. They had set a trap for her, and nothing would ever be the same after that fateful day.

To her, they were just Steve and Bucky-the boys who used to race down Brooklyn streets barefoot, who could eat their weight in ice cream, who once spent a summer building a treehouse that barely stayed up until autumn. She spoke about them with warmth, never shying away from the fact that life had pulled them into wars-one they chose, one they didn't. As you got older, you saw clips, grainy photos, shaky cell phone footage of Bucky Barnes in black tactical gear, a metal arm flashing in the light. You read the reports, the headlines about the destruction, the redemption, the battles the Avengers fought to save the world. You didn't expect to ever meet them. Not until 2025, when your grandmother passed away. Steve came to her funeral-looking exactly as he had in the old photographs, like time had politely stepped aside for him. And with him was another man, standing half a step behind, dressed in a dark suit. A few years of homeschooling later, my dad decided public school would be more beneficial for my childhood development. I'm obviously not good with new people, so this idea didn't thrill me. I somehow ended up making friends though. Things started to get weird after I woke up in hospital, people started looking at me weirdly and my dad felt distant. I start getting close with Peter, but I over hear something strange in the Avengers compound about myself, so I end up going to Peter's, trying to escape from the truth of happened many years ago. Will I run away with Peter and will everything go to plan? Or will the truth come out, leading to a relationship I'd never expected to happen?
